Kindergarten Lead Teacher
My name is Allison Near. This will be my third year at CWC Mar Vista, and my second year teaching Kindergarten. I started my CWC MV journey as a first grade Teaching Associate. I was drawn to Citizens of the World due to the focus on social emotional development and social justice. I find it extremely rewarding to guide my students in learning how to regulate their emotions in a healthy way, as well as, empowering them to use their voice to make change in the world.
I am originally from Pacific Grove, CA. Prior to working in education, I received my Bachelors in Business Administration (Marketing), from San Francisco State University. After college, I worked in the entertainment industry for a number of years, doing marketing for both film and television. I then decided it was time to go back to school in order to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher.
I received my teaching credential from Antioch University. I love being around children and feel honored to help shape future generations. I strive to create a supportive class culture that nurtures learning in a positive, fun environment. I believe that by having a balance of support and high expectations, students are able to achieve their greatest potential. Each student brings their own unique perspective into the classroom. I want my students to be proud of their differences and to see themselves represented in the world.
In my free time, I enjoy activities such as hanging out with friends, swimming, hiking, listening to music, watching movies, traveling, and spending time with my husband and our dog, Gus.
