COMMUNICATIONS

Creates a channel of communication between families and the school.  It accomplishes this by collecting, organizing, and editing news from committee chairs and the community to share with families in the weekly newsletter.  Also oversees moderation of family Facebook group.

COMMUNITY - NEIGHBORHOOD RELATIONS

Acts as a liaison between the local community and the school community to ensure a positive, harmonious, and mutually beneficial relationship.  Informs business and residential neighbors of campus events that may impact parking and/or noise.  Provides a means of communication for neighbors to convey concerns and grievances, and works with administration to resolve all community-related issues.

COMMUNITY - HOSPITALITY

Collaborates with the Outreach Committee to provide a warm and welcoming environment and a seamless transition for new families joining CWC Mar Vista.  Current parents and guardians, "Buddies," are partnered with new families at the start of summer and serve as a point of contact and a source of information both before and during the school year.  Buddies also plan and organize social events to allow new families to become acquainted with returning families.

COMMUNITY - OUTREACH

Outreach takes place throughout the year with a time line of events where the committee volunteers attend community events to present, promote, and help families apply to CWC.  CWC prides itself on a diverse model.  Outreach at times will focus on providing a certain demographic of people an opportunity to learn and apply to the school.

COMMUNITY - WHOLE SCHOOL EVENTS

Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to plan and organize cultural events to strengthen and deepen the bonds in our school community.  It provides students and families with an opportunity to celebrate diversity, and explore different cultures and traditions, both within and outside the classroom.  The committee also organizes whole school play dates, parents’ nights out, Legoland, PJ Storytime, International Festival, Movie Night, and other gatherings to bring the CWC community together.  Looking for chairs for each of these events.

FACILITIES - INTERIOR ENVIRONMENT

Addresses the physical aspects of interior space – design and décor of classrooms, the library, and other common areas. Twice-weekly cleanup includes sweeping up trash, putting away stray sports equipment and cleaning under the lunch tables. Sweeping of the green top to collect lost clothing, water bottles and other items. Organize and tidy the clothing rack and bins. Post all lost items on Facebook once a week.

FACILITIES - GARDEN

Greens the campus and maintains trees and gardens.

FACILITIES – HANDY HELPERS

A group of volunteers who are ‘handy’ or who have skills such as carpentry, painting, construction, plumbing, electrician, etc.  to improve the classrooms and campus by helping out with whatever odd jobs need to be done.

FINANCE - FISCAL

Meets regularly with the Principal to review the budget and financial health of the school to help provide context for fundraising and facility needs.

FINANCE - FUNDRAISING

Works collaboratively with the Principal, Regional Executive Director and Regional Development Officer to establish annual fundraising goals and create a strategic plan to accomplish these goals.  Fundraising efforts focus on three large events - Annual Give, Walk-A-Thon and The Bash - each with a Sub-Committee and Co-Chairs dedicated to its planning and execution. 

 

ANNUAL GIVE

Annual give takes place at the very beginning of the year and continues through Mid-October. Tasks include: hand printing, communications, Spanish translation, and sign up team.

 

Commitment:

September → End of October

WALK-A-THON

The Walk-A-Thon takes place in February and meetings begin in October. Tasks include; tech support, graphic design, promotion, data entry, and day of help.

BASH

The Bash takes place in the Spring. Meetings will take place from the beginning of the school year. Tasks include; location scout, secretary, decorating, silent auction, raffle, graphic design, PR, Spanish Translation, Room Parent Liaison, securing food and alcohol donations, Entertainment, on site volunteer coordinator

GREEN TEAM

Plans, organizes, and leads on-campus and community based experiential learning opportunities for CWCMV students, families, and staff.  Collaborative gardening, composting, recycling, and e-waste activities and projects will teach about sustainability, eco-education and the Four R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot.

LEARNING – LIBRARY

Volunteers assist in all the functions of running the library, whether it be working with the children on a weekly basis, or on various improvements on an as needed basis. The committee collaborates with the teaching staff to plan and organize weekly class visits to borrow books.   In addition, it catalogs books in the library database, assists students in searching for, borrowing, and returning books (during weekly visits), maintains the physical library, and solicits cash and book donations to fulfill teachers’ wish lists, and seeks out fundraising and grant opportunities.

LEARNING – ART

Supporting the Art teacher with projects throughout the year and helping to mount the Art Show in the Spring.

 

Commitment: As needed

 

 

 

LEARNING – SPANISH

Responsible for supporting the Spanish teacher and the Spanish curriculum. Organizes weekly Cafecitos to help support the program and build community through fun and meaningful family focused cultural events and learning activities.

MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY– TECHNOLOGY

Utilizes technical expertise to facilitate smooth operations within the school.  Activities include setting up video conferencing for meetings, assisting with database work, maintaining the website, supporting committees by creating online sign-ups, maintaining the volunteer log, maintaining the library database, and many other tech activities.

MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY– PHOTOGRAPHY

Enlists professional photographers and serious hobbyists within the school community to document students, families, and school events for school communications, media promotions, the yearbook, and campus displays, including the Family Community Board.  Photo selection and editing also needed.

MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY – VIDEO DOCUMENTATION Parent volunteers with video, film, sound or editing experience create videos and short movies to document school events, talks, and lectures for the purpose of promoting CWC Mar Vista to prospective families and the community.

MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY – YEARBOOK

Collects and compiles photos of all children and school events throughout the year to create a yearbook.  In addition, it plans and manages the purchasing and publication process, as well as the yearbook promotion and sales to the community.

MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY – DAD BAND (FEAT. MOMS)

Performs at the Walk-a-Thon and various school events. Need singers, musicians, sound mixers, and all types of roadie help.

ROOM PARENTS

Room parents facilitate communication and cohesiveness within classrooms by sending weekly communications, setting up play dates, helping teachers with classroom and volunteer needs and being the bridge between the school, committees, and families.

WELLNESS

The Wellness Committee supports the social-emotional curriculum taught to the students by hosting various Mindfulness events and regular meditation meetings throughout the year for the parents. We also offer opportunities to learn more about physical and emotional health via small hands-on learning classes, and initiate support systems for families in need such as meal trains and clothing donations.
