Sara is beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing CWC Mar Vista’s mission and vision to life. Sara was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, where her parents settled after emigrating from Ethiopia. As a bilingual, first-generation immigrant, her worldview on the importance of education was shaped by the appreciation and value placed on equity, community, and perseverance from a young age. She holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and is a graduate of the University of Virginia, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Masters of Teaching degree in Elementary Education. After teaching at an independent parochial school in Washington, D.C. for three years, Sara moved to Los Angeles, joining a progressive independent school with a social justice mission in Santa Monica. There, she taught second grade for five years. She spent her first year at CWC Mar Vista in second grade, and in October of 2015, married her incredible partner of eight years, Michael.  When she is not reveling in newlywed joy, her hobbies include reading, researching innovative classroom ideas, perusing vintage fashion and furniture, and discovering new music. She also enjoys learning about technology and digital design. Sara's educational philosophy is that all children thrive in joyful, challenging, and supportive classrooms. Lastly, she believes emphatically that every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a synergetic ecosystem of passion, energy and engagement through inquiry and play. Sara is overjoyed to be returning to the magical world of Kindergarten this year, where she first began her teaching career nine years ago.
