Linzy Guevara is from the Central Valley in California, and has been working with children for most of her adult life. She knew she was interested in working with youth when she became a camp counselor at Camp Green Meadows in 2003. Over the years she has participated in other youth activities, such as refereeing youth sports, coaching Middle School volleyball, and tutoring through Bridging Borders Americorps, where she subsequently learned she wanted to work with youth who were learning English as a second language. As a self-identified bicultural woman, who was unable to learn her own second language as a child, she is passionate about finding ways to use cultural exploration in the classroom to help youth relate to their cultures in meaningful ways. Linzy has a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential and is finishing her Master’s in Urban Education at UCLA, with a focus on cultural identity. Linzy has a degree in Child and Adolescent Development, and because of her commitment and passion for socio-emotional and community wellness, is very excited to become part of the team at CWC.
