Amy Neiman - Lead Teacher - 2nd Grade
Amy is in her thirteenth year of teaching and is honored and tremendously excited to continue on her journey with Citizens of the World Charter School Mar Vista as a Second Grade teacher. Amy grew up in downtown Chicago where she was fortunate to attend a school whose goals and objectives very closely resembled those of CWC. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in Anthropology, Amy headed to California to earn her multiple subject credential, and her single subject teaching credential with a focus in the social sciences. Amy spent her first year as the lead third grade teacher at the Inglewood Preparatory Academy Charter School. From there she accepted a position as the lead second grade teacher at New Roads School in Santa Monica where she ultimately ended up staying for eight years. In her time at New Roads, Amy designed and implemented the curriculum for second grade, sixth grade humanities and pre-algebra along with a handful of electives such as Iron Chef, Food Science and Logo Design. In her final years with New Roads Amy took charge of the school’s Spectrum program where she created an inclusive, experiential curriculum for middle school students on the Autism Spectrum. Through the primarily farm-to-table based program she designed and implemented for Spectrum, Amy earned a grant from UCLA to create a student- run herb business whose legacy continued after her departure. In various side ventures Amy has also tried her hand with artisan foods, teaching cooking to kids and studying viticulture and yoga. She is a certified hot yoga instructor and lover of most things ‘outdoors’.
